June 04, 2011
June 4, 2011, 2011 (Yakima Speedway, ASA Member Track, Yakima WA) - Yakima Speedway hosted Saturday night at the races Youth Appreciation Night featuring the Tire Centers Super Stocks, H & H Furniture Pure Stocks, EZ Credit Auto Sales & CWI Security Hornets, Mel’s Diner Bump To Pass and the Spectator Drags. Rich Peters set fast time and a new track Record and won the main event in the Tire Centers Super Stocks.
Chuck Roberts and Andy Beaman started on the pole for the Tire Centers Main Event. Chuck Roberts captured the early lead followed Jimmy Zorrozua and Shawn Matthews until Chuck Roberts got loose and spun off the track in turn two. The second yellow flag came out when Andy Beaman spun Shawn Mathews out and was penalized with a black flag stop and go penalty. On lap 13 race leader Jimmy Zorrozua slipped up opening the door for Rich Peters, who set a new track record in qualifying, to take the lead followed by Tony Huffines and Shawn Mathews.
The field remained the same until lap 28 when the third caution came out for a spin in turn two. Rich Peters started to build his lead and was 6 car lengths between the second place car of Tony Huffines and Shawn Mathews who had been battling for second place. The fourth caution flew when Jimmy Zorrozua spun in turn two. With 5 laps to go Shawn Mathews looked for any way to get around Tony Huffines but would not be able to make the pass. Rich Peters took the checkered flag, followed by Tony Huffines, Shawn Mathews and Andy Beaman.
Harold Emmons and Mike Denton started the race on the pole for the H & H Furniture Pure Stocks 30 lap main event. Rob Allen raced Cody Denton and Greg Gargett to take the lead on lap 5. The first caution of the race came out when the car of Kyle Wade started smoking and had to come off the track. The green would not stay out for long, several cars would come together and the track would need to be red flagged for track clean up. Rob Allen, Jay Younker and Greg Gargett began to pull away from the rest of the pack, racing nose to tail through multiple cautions and continued to race that way for the next 10 laps until Tim Denton went to pull down pit lane, hit a yuke tire and pit wall bringing out the second red flag of the race.
On the restart it was the same three cars dominating the track. The race was on for second place between Jay Younker and Greg Gargett beating and hitting each other all around the track. Another yellow flag came out setting up the field for a green, white, checker finish. No one could beat Rob Allen on the restart and he went on to take home first place followed by Jay Younker and Greg Gargett.
The CWI Security & EZ Credit Auto Sales Hornets main event was won by point’s leader Josh Washington, followed by Julie Melville, George Jankowics, Jesse Eaton and Joshua Henne.
