LONGTON WINS AT YAKIMA SPEEDWAY

August 22,, 2010 (Yakima Speedway, ASA Member Track, Yakima WA)-After a season full of highs and lows, Mike Longton from Moxee Washington made it back into the winners circle and proved that he is still a contender for Yakima Speedway Super Late Model Challenge Series$30,000 point’s fund.

In a caution filled race, two of which occurred before the first lap was counted in the 100 lap main event, fans witnessed some of the most exciting racing action of the season. A ten car invert put Rookie of the Year contender Randy Marshall Jr. on the pole and once the race finally went green the racing action began. By lap two, Mike Longton who started in sixth was already in third place and with bold moves was the race leader by lap four followed by Randy Marshall Jr. and Tayler Riddle who’s currently leading the chase for Rookie of the Year.

A race incident involving Erick Hargraves, Ron Bemis, current point’s leader Owen Riddle and Harold Raczynski between turns three and four would bring out a caution on lap 20 but with minimal time in the pits they were all able to continue.

Both Owen Riddle and Ron Bemis showed determination, both being involved in multiple race incidents both racing each other and the field to make it up into third and fourth respectively.

Rookie Tayler Riddle looked to have the fastest car of the evening and patiently waited for the veteran Mike Longton to make a mistake. On lap 78 the two were coming up on the lap car of Lenard Barthel who got off the track on the backstretch checked up. Mike Longton dove inside and Tayler Riddle outside splitting Barthel three wide. Mike Longton on the inside groove was able to maintain the lead and went on to claim the main event win in he Applebee’s Car Side to Go Winners Circle followed by the Rookies Tayler Riddle and Randy Marshall Jr. that showcased their talent and gave the fans a glimpse of future race champions. Ron Bemis, Owen Riddle, Christopher Kalsch, Harold Raczynski, Erick Hargraves, Lenard Barthel and Marcus Maggard rounded off the top 10.

In the Tire Center Super Streets, Dusty John started on the pole in a back up car provided by Randy Marshall Jr. and team, and raced to an early lead. Mel Patnode and Mike VanAmburg battled each other for second. By lap 5 Mel Patnode was able to get under Dusty John coming out of turn four and Mike VanAmburg followed him through. The two would race hard for the podium finish but in a last ditch attempt to pass Mel Patnode, Mike VanAmburg would go low, hit the rumble strips and lose momentum. Mel Patnode went on to claim another win and keep his position as point’s leader in the Super Street division.

In the 35 lap Burger Ranch Sportsman main event Ron Morton and Matt McDougal led the field to take the green flag. In the first turn Matt McDougal claimed the lead. John Rose who started in the fourth position moved into second by lap 2 and the race was on. John Rose and series point’s leader Chris VanAmburg caught Matt McDougal and raced into first and second spot by lap 7. Matt McDougal lost power and had to pull into the pits, while rookie Cody Mullins lost control of his car coming out of turn two collecting Morgan Morrison and bringing out a caution. With three laps to go Chris VanAmburg, using a lap car would go three wide, take the lead and go on to win the Main Event. John Rose, Ron Morton, Jerry Walker and Don Klang rounded off the top five.

In the Sea Galley Youth Hornets, Clay Mears came home the big winner claiming, Fast Time, A trophy dash, heat race and the main event. Josh Parmentier also had a great evening setting fast time, A trophy dash and the main event win.
