PATNODE WINS AND MOVES INTO THE SUPER STREET POINTS LEAD

July 31,  2010 (Yakima Speedway, ASA Member Track, Yakima WA)- Saturday Night at the Races featured the Tire Centers Super Streets series and although there was a small car count there was some hard core racing in this main event. This class put on some of the most exciting racing from the trophy dashes to the main event. The A Trophy Dash showcased some great action with cars two wide and three wide and ended with Mel Patnode in the winners Circle and he was the fast time qualifier for the second race in a row. In the Main Event the cars raced the first 10 laps like a trophy dash but a collision between the points leader Mike VanAmburg and Andy Beaman would end up putting both of the racers out for the rest of the evening. Mel Patnode and Dusty John would end up with podium finishes and with the win Mel Patnode passed Mike VanAmburg in the points standings.

In the Burger Ranch Sportsman Division Chris VanAmburg claimed fast time setting a new track record with a fast 23.258. Morgan Morrison had a great night for Team Zero Racing winning the B Trophy Dash and the Heat Race and Mike Hill claimed the A Trophy Dash. Dan Wilson also a driver with Team Zero Racing started on the pole and the wild race began with cars racing for position from the drop of the green flag. The caution flew on lap four when the car of Ed St. Mary spun on the front stretch hitting the inside pit wall. On the restart Chris VanAmburg raced Morgan Morrison and made a pass on the outside claiming the lead followed by Matt McDougal and John Rose. John Rose moved into second place by lap 8 and began to chase Chris VanAmburg. A caution on lap eleven restacked the field for the 35 lap Burger Ranch Sportsman Main Event. Matt McDougal was racing in the third position when he accidently made contact with the lap car of Don Klang cutting down a tire and going off the track between turns three and four bringing out another caution. The race restarted on lap 16 with leader Chris VanAmburg, John Rose and Jason Huffines following close behind. Chris VanAmburg would not relinquish the lead and claimed the win followed by John Rose, Jason Huffines, Terry Taylor and Ron Morton rounding off the top five.

In the CWI Security & EZ Credit Auto Sales hornets Eric Coble won the B Trophy Dash, Greg Gargett won the A Trophy dash and broke his own track record with a 16.806 and Chris Marang won the Heat Race. In the main event Eric Cobel started on the pole but the fast car of Chris Marang drove three wide in turn three to claim the lead on the first lap and would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the race to claim the main event win followed by Greg Gargett and Dave Petersen.

The Youth Hornets sponsored by Sea Galley started off the evenings events. Clayton Mears took home the A Dash trophy and the Main Event and Tyler Thorndike won the heat race.

Series point’s leader Donnie Stevens qualified with a fast time of 17.904, Ben Briggs took home the B Dash Trophy and Allen Reid raced for that A Trophy Dash in the wild and crazy Mel’s Diner Bump To Pass. In the main event Franklin McWain started on the pole and as usual the craziness began. In the end Pepe Rojas finished first with Joe Stevens and Donnie Stevens rounding off the top three.
