Morfin, Zacharias, Henne, Anderson and Greene score wins at Yakima Speedway

YAKIMA, Wash. (July 13, 2013)-Jack Anderson held off defending Pure Stock champion Chris Marang late in the going at Yakima Speedway to score his first victory of the 2013 season on Saturday night at the famed half-mile.

Also scoring main event victories on Saturday night were Kyler Conduff (Hobby Sportsman), Kellie Zacharias (Bump to Pass), Joshua Henne (Mini Stocks), Daniel Morfin (Hornets) and Aaron Greene (Northwest Pro 4 Trucks).

Anderson got his night started by setting a new track record in qualifying. Marang picked up the win in the A-Trophy Dash setting the stage for a battle to the finish in the main event. A total invert of the field put Anderson and Marang to the rear chasing early leader and B-Trophy Dash winner, Peppie Rojas. Through the races first 15 laps Rojas kept the point with Anderson slowly working his way up to second just as lap 15 was completed. Anderson overtook Rojas for the lead then sailed away to the victory. Marang ran second at the checkered flag with Mike Denton, Rojas and Rob Allen rounding out the top-5.

Also scoring his first victory of 2013 was Hornet main event winner, Daniel Morfin.

Morfin held his ground in the late going as Josh Aguirre pressed for the lead with Tim Edris also in the mix. Those three would cross the stripe for podium finishes with Cody Allen and Robert Paton taking fourth and fifth place respectively.

Josh Parmentier continued his mastery of Mini-Stock division qualifying en route to setting a new track record. With the fast time it appeared to be Parmentier's night but Joshua Henne had other plans. Scoring a win in the A-Trophy Dash over Parmentier, Henne grabbed a lead and never looked back in the main event to score the victory over Parmentier and the hard-charging Owen Berglund.

Kellie Zacharias padded his Bump to Pass points lead with a win in the wild and crazy division. Starting in fifth-place for the main event, Zacharias moved forward through the field to take the lead and keep from being hammered late by the fast approaching Todd Nunn with Darrell Tidrick (the night's fast time winner) lurking in the tight track. Zacharias was able to maintain his lead over Nunn for the victory. Nunn held off Tidrick, Joe Stevens Justin Heigh for the runner-up position.

Kyler Conduff returned to the Hobby Sportsman division for the first time since the Apple Cup and made the most of his entry into the night's action. Setting the top speed in qualifying, Conduff ran third in the A-Trophy Dash but had his work cut out in the main event as he had to come through the inverted field.

Chris Morrison held the lead for much of the going in the main event and looked to have things in his hands until a spin by Cody Denton brought out the yellow flag. On the cone restart Conduff took the outside line as the drivers headed into turn No.1. Morrison held the low groove entering the corner but over the race's next three laps Conduff battled for the lead and finally overtook Morrison. From there Conduff would not be denied as Morrison was never able to gain enough ground in the latter stages of the race to reclaim the top spot.

Don Klang had a nice run to finish third with Trevor Flora and Randy Hitchcock rounding out the top-5. Points leader Morgan Morrison lost a motor in practice and was given the chance to drive Derek Raptcheff's Pure Stock to gain points. The moved worked as Morrison finished sixth and maintains a slim margin atop the championship standings.

Aaron Greene took the main event victory in the Northwest Pro 4 Truck Series with Matt Greene and Mike Tipps taking second and third place at the checkers.

Racing returns to Yakima Speedway, an ASA (American Speed Association) sanctioned racing facility, on July 27 with action in the Hobby Sportsman, Mini Stocks, Late Model Sportsman, Hornet, Bump to Pass and Pure Stock divisions.
