Ball, Denton, Allen, Stevenson and Aguirre pick-up victories at Yakima Speedway Yakima, WA (April 29, 2012)-Racing in Central Washington got into high-gear Saturday night as Yakima Speedway hosted five of its most popular divisions in the 2012 regular-season opener.

Picking up main event victories were Jeff Ball (Hornets), Jeff Stevenson (Sportsman), Rob Allen (Pure Stocks), Josh Aguirre (Bump-to-Pass) and Cody Denton (Mini-Stocks).

Denton's victory made history as it was the first checkered flag be thrown for the newly formed Mini-Stock division. For the better part of a week Denton hard labored to prepare his Hornet car for the move up tot he Mini-Stock class which runs the half-mile as opposed to the interior track run by the popular Hornet division. Denton and Joshua Henne race side-by-side for the majority of the main event's 15 laps with Denton clearing for the lead down the back stretch the holding off one last charge form Henne at the checkers.

Jeff Ball and Casey Chambers battled hard in the Hornet main event with Ball taking and inside line entering turn No. 1 that forced Chambers high into the outside wall. Chambers was able to recover but lost ground as Micheal Beck cleared for second place late. John Fortenberry suffered damage in the night's heat race and was unable to start the main event.

The wild and crazy Bump-to-Pass class did not disappoint the Yakima faithful as Shannon Davis took an early lead then was knocked out of the way by as series of competitors including eventual winner Josh Aguirre with the popular Clark Griswold-themed Ford station wagon of Kellie Zacharias running second and Todd Nunn rounding out the top-3.

Rob Allen showed that his No. 23 Pure Stock will be a force in the championship race as he backed up his Apple Cup win two weeks ago with a strong run all night en route to the division's main event victory. The win netted local charity Children's Wishes and Dreams a $100 donation from Allen's biggest supports Ron and Kelli Harrington.

Chris Marang, Kyle Wade, Joe Estep and Jeff Wilkinson rounded out the top-5 running order.

Stevenson moved from his starting position deep in the field based on the invert of time trials. By the race's midway point Stevenson and defending series champion, Buck Noel Jr. had built a sizable lead then settled the race amongst themselves over the final five laps with Allen coming out on top. The drive of the night came from Kyler Conduff who had struggled with handling issues for most of the day, fell back to eighth in the main event running order then moved forward to third in the late stages for a top-3 finish.

Ron Morton and Don Klang closed out the top-5 finishing positions. Yakima Speedway returns to action on May 5 featuring the Northwest Pro 4Truck Series and the Northwest Pro 4 Late Models. Also racing will be the Pure Stock's, Hornets, Mini-Stocks, Bump-to-Pass and Sportsman divisions. For more information log onto yakimaspeedway.us or the tracks page on Facebook.
